"Read like a wolf eats!"   -Gary Paulsen

Reading is a vital part of our Junior High English curriculum.  Each student will be responsible for a number of book reviews every trimester to post on turnitin.com.  Below are some books that we read in class, as well as a few favorites.  Check them out!  You might find your next great read!

The Maze Runner

The 7-8th graders are currently reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner.  It's a dystopian novel about a group of boys are placed in a experimental biome called The Glade, where they are forced to solve the maze or die trying.  Many students have finished and are reading the sequels--The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, and The Kill Order.  We are super pumped to watch a showing of the movie October 2nd!

As Gian says, "It's a-MAZE-ing!"

Ms. Mousel is reading The Death Cure by James Dashner

The Death Cure is the third book in the Maze Runner series.  Thomas and the Gladers just survived the Scorch Trials, only to be experimented on again.  Wicked is swiping their brains and giving memories back---but are they to be trusted?  Who can help?  More importantly, will they get a cure for the Flare before it strikes them?

The Selection series by Kiera Cass *****

The Selection is a dystopian novel about a girl named America Singer.  Growing up in the Carolina District as a Five caste (three away from the bottom), America has no chance of becoming successful or making her life better...until a letter arrives.  The Selection gives the chance of a lifetime to the 35 participants who will vie for the prince, but it won't be easy.  A cross between the Hunger Games and the Bachelor, The Selection is a dangerous contest involving "35 girls. 1 crown.  The competition of a lifetime." -New York Times bestseller

My Brother's Voice by Stephen Nasser   *****

The true story of a young boy who suffered through one of the most horrifying periods of history, the Holocaust.  Stephen "Pista" Nasser was 13 when the Nazis broke into their Hungary home and took them to Auschwitz.  His experience was kept in a diary form and depicts the horror of his experiences in vivid detail.  A must read, this book shows the strength of the human spirit and inspires us to persevere.
