8th Annual SHS Halloween Writing Contest
Velcome, all 5th-12th grade SHS students! If you are afraid of things that go bump in the night, escape now. If you dare to enter, put on your masked thinking caps and get your creatively bloodcurdling juices flowing, for you have now entered.........the Writing Zone! (cue scary music).
1. One entry per student.
2. Each student will enter his/her age group category, so specify your grade level upon entering.
3. Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification and an unfortunate curse be hexed upon you. Whahaha.
4. Short stories only. Follow the word limit and guidelines listed under each age category (see left). Failing to comply to word limit will result in disqualification (refer to #3).
5. Avoid all gore, graphic violence, and inappropriate vocabulary/content.
6. Writing conventions and correct mechanics will be used in the judging criteria. Please, proofread!
7. Prizes (SURPRISES) will be awarded to each 1st and 2nd place GRADE level winner (5th-12th) October 31st.
8. All prizes are random and cannot be redeemed for cash value; however, they may be traded amongst contestant winners.
9. Winning stories could be published in the Savage Express.
10. All judges’ decisions are FINAL!

Each age group will be judged by the following classes:
5/6th -------- 7/8th
7/8th -------- 9th
